There's an App for That .... but Does It Rock? - San Francisco Chronicle (press release)

iPhone, iPad and iPod lovers who have always wished there was an easy way to determine which of Apple's millions of apps are worth their time are about to have their wish granted. A new Twitter account, @AppzThatRock, takes the guesswork out of application buying and downloading.

Duluth, GA (PRWEB) April 20, 2012

The estimated 95% of Apple apps that go unused within three weeks of being downloaded is about to get a whole lot smaller. A new Twitter feed, aptly named AppzThatRock(https://twitter.com/#!/AppzThatRock), is dedicated to differentiating between which applications iPhone, iPad and iPod users should definitely check out and which ones they should not waste their time on.

The Apple website declares that there are currently over 500,000 iPhone apps. Additionally, to date more than three billion apps have been downloaded by iPhone, iPad and iPod users worldwide. To put those numbers in perspective, New Mac Online breaks the saturation down into concrete figures, saying that "it would take a full year, without stopping," for an individual to try just the active apps in Apple's App Store. And that's if s/he spent just five minutes on each one.

In fact, the average iPhone user downloads 11 apps per month, but perhaps not surprisingly, only 30% of those are "ever used one day after being downloaded." Twenty days later, the percentage still in use has plummeted to 5%. Clearly, in the majority of instances, what initially looked like a must-have application doesn't live up to its expectations.

The new AppzThatRock Twitter feed aims to do away with that disappointment and, in the process, save Apple tech users a lot of wasted time. The @AppzThatRock account offers up reviews of and news on only those apps that will actually rock iPhone, iPad and iPod owners' world. As a result, just one week into its debut it has already become one of the hottest Twitter accounts. At the seven-day mark, the feed already has almost 94,000 followers. That's an astronomical number given "The Guardian's" estimate that the average Twitter user has a mere 126 followers.

The @AppzThatRock account holder explains, "I created this news and review feed to help Apple devotees determine what app is hot and what app is not." Apparently that's information a lot of people want to arm themselves with. "Right out of the starting gate, it has been massively popular among iPhone, iPad and iPod users and app developers. Many developers have found that Twitter is a great source to get their app exposure, and that's where we come in. @AppzThatRock is fast becoming the Web's go-to source for new app releases, updates, reviews and news."
