iPod Product Lines To See Update Alongside New iPhone - iSource

Promobar compare

As noted yesterday, Apple has officially announced their media event, which will revolve almost entirely around the next-generation iPhone. Well, 9to5Mac is now reporting that new iPods will likely be introduced at this time.

The report does not go into great detail, but they do state that they expect Apple to release two or three iPod product lines, many of which will come in a variety of colors. A couple of the lines seem to correspond to the iPod Shuffle and iPod nano, but the third line seems uncertain at this point. Instead of repeating what they stated in their report, here’s an excerpt:

All these new lines will come in multiple colors, one of the lines will come in two size capacities, and the other two lines will come in a single storage capacity.

With the current iPod nanos and iPod shuffles both available in multiple colors (and with the nano currently available in two capacities and the shuffle in one), we think it is likely that new iPod nanos and iPod shuffles are launching next week.

However, it is possible that there is a third line as well (that, too, comes in multiple colors). With the iPod touch currently available in two colors and three capacities (black/white, 8GB, 32GB, 64GB) we don’t believe that the iPod touch is third line that comes in multiple colors.

There are rumors circulating that the iPod nano is going to be redesigned, and possibly include a home button and iPod touch-esque form factor. This may be a redesign of the iPod nano, or it could be a new line of devices, which this report suggests in a roundabout way. The third line could also be either the iPod classic or iPod touch even though the report does not believe this to be the case.

If it is the touch, a rumor cropped up awhile back suggesting that the new touch will have a 4-inch screen similar to the one expected to make its way into the new iPhone, which will be introduced at the same time.
