Picking Vt apples could win you an iPod - WCAX

WILLISTON, Vt. -

This fall, if an odd looking apple catches your eye, it could win you an iPod.         

Nineteen pick-your-own apple orchards throughout the state are once again taking part in the apples-to-iPods promotion. One wooden apple is hidden at each site. Pickers who turn in the lucky piece of fruit will win Macintosh prizes from Small Dog Electronics, ranging from an iPod Shuffle to an iPad.
     
For some, the challenge will keep them in the orchards for hours.

"We've had people actually check out every single-tree until they've finally found it and sometimes we've had them check every tree and not find it, but we try to put it in the tree in such a way that it's a little difficult to see it," said John Adams of Adams Apple Orchard.

The Williston orchard has more than 900 trees in its pick-your-own lot. Vermont has almost 4-thousand acres of commercial apple production.  The state's leading apple varieties are Macintosh, Cortland, Red Delicious and Empire.
