Best Buy is offering a $110 discount on Apple's new 15.4-inch MacBook Pro with Retina display with 256GB flash storage as the July shopping deals keep rolling in.
The big box retailer is running a sale on all kinds of Apple gear, including iMac all-in-ones, iPod devices, and MacBook Pro and MacBook Air laptops, including the 15.4-inch device with Retina display. But good luck getting your hands on the new MBP at Best Buy's sale price of $2090.
Best Buy's MacBook Pro deal is being offered as an in-store pick-up only, which means if a local Best Buy store is out of stock, you're out of luck. To test the MBP's availability, I ran checks in random ZIP codes across the country in states such as California, Florida, Illinois, Indiana, Minnesota, Montana, New York, Texas, and Wyoming. In my tests, most of the stores didn't have any sale items available. So unless you live near Bay Shore or Patchogue, New York; Clarksville, Indiana; Fort Collins, Colorado; or Rapid City, South Dakota; you may have a tough time finding a Best Buy with the new MacBooks available.
Apple introduced the laptop with Retina display in early June with its base price of $2200 about $400 more than the company's standard 15-inch MacBook Pro laptops. Critics have raved over the device's 2880 by 1800 resolution display at 220 pixels per inch, its sleek design, and the device's overall performance.
In addition to the Retina display, Apple's new MacBook Pro features Intel's 2.3GHz quad-core Ivy Bridge Core i7 processor, 8GB of RAM, NVIDIA GeForce GT 650M with 1GB of GDDR5, 720p Webcam, 2 x Thunderbolt ports, 2 x USB 3.0, HDMI out, SDXC card slot, 802.11n Wi-Fi and Bluetooth 4.0 connectivity. In Macworld's tests, the battery life on the MacBook Pro lasted a little over five hours. The new MacBook Pro with Retina display has no optical drive and measures 0.71 inches thick.
If you can't get your hands on the new MacBook Pro with Retina display from Best Buy, other Apple laptops are more widely available. My quick checks revealed $50 off the $1000 11.6-inch MacBook Air with 64GB flash storage; and $90 off the $1800 15.4-inch MacBook Pro (non-Retina) with 500GB hard drive.
