Sony Bringing Music Library to iPhone, iPod - NASDAQ

TOKYO--Sony Music Entertainment (Japan) Inc. on Monday will make its songs available for download domestically on the iPhone, iPod and other Apple Inc. devices, the Nikkei reported in its Monday morning edition.

In Japan, the Sony Corp. (6758.TO) group firm had not made its portfolio of songs accessible from Apple devices as part of a broader strategy to promote sales of Sony smartphones and music players. But with the online market slumping, the company decided to change tack. Apple users already have access to Sony Music content in the U.S.

The songs will be included in a download service that debuts Monday. Run by RecoChoku Co., a content distribution firm owned by Sony Music and other major labels, the service will offer the songs for Y52-420 each. Listening to the purchased songs will require a dedicated app.
