Most us have an alarm clock and an iPhone or iPod next to our beds. Chances are that you have that iPhone connected to a charger so it makes sense to try and consolidate the number of bits and pieces on the bedside table.

The Edifier TickTock Dock combines an FM radio, alarm clock and iPhone/iPod speaker dock.

The TickTock Dock is quite easy to configure. Once it’s plugged into the power, all that is needed is to flip the iDevice Dock connector out from the lower part of the front of the unit. When it’s not needed, it can be hidden away, making the Tick- Tock Dock look like a modernised version of an old-fashioned alarm clock.

When an iPhone or iPod is docked, the TickTock Dock takes the time automatically so that there’s no need to mess about with manually setting the time. There’s a five-way button on the top of the unit for adjusting the volume, play/pause and skipping between tracks. It works well enough but is not that easy to reach. Unlocking our iPod or iPhone and using the onscreen controls was easier.

Sound quality was good enough for a clock radio. The TickTock Dock is not designed as personal boombox but it will do the job nicely in a bedroom for personal listening. The clock can store up to five different alarms, and these can be set to go off on specific days of the week so you can set an alarm for weekdays that lets you sleep in on the weekend.

Macworld Australia’s buying advice.

The Edifier TickTock Dock plays back music at a decent quality, keeps your iPhone or iPod charged and looks great.
