A professional body piercer from Newfield, New Jersey has taken his love for body piercing and technology to the natural extreme.
Digital Trends, Dave Hurban, 21, surgically implanted four titanium studs into his wrist and use them to magnetically secure his iPod Nano. The project called iDermal allows him to smiply attach his iPod to his arm and go on his merry way.
NBCNews.com reports on the popularity of Hurbanâs iDermal. His âHow Toâ video, which he posted on YouTube, has been viewed nearly 900,000 times in the last two weeks. iDermal was also a huge hit last weekend at a tattoo convention in Baltimore.
âI must have talked to like 400 people individually,â he said. âEvery person I showed, they were like so amazed.â
Hurban seems to get the same reaction no matter where he goes.
âWhen people see this, itâs like theyâve seen something that no one else has done, ever, itâs just such a crazy concept. And it almost takes them a little bit of time to grasp. I actually am the inventor of the strapless watch.â
Hurban is very pleased with the way that iDermal has turned out. The implants work very well in securing his iPod to his wrist, he says that he can swing his arms back in forth without the iPod falling off or budging.
âI can go for a run and it wonât come off. Iâve already taken it to the gym and jogged with it on.â
With technology changing constantly, an upgrade to the iPod Nano is due here soon. When asked about what he would do if a new upgrade came out, Hurban replied,
âI did it because Iâm living in the now. I did it because itâs cool now. Even if they do come out with a new iPod, the fact that I did this when this iPod was out, thatâs what matters.â He then added, âTo be honest, if they come up with a new one, and itâs bigger or smaller, I probably wonât change it.â
Hurban wasnât trying to make a statement or trying to sell people on the idermal when he first decided to do this. According to Hurban, âthe ultimate reasoning was that I just thought it would be cool.â
