Squid skin has an amazing ability to change colors, says new research and an amazing new video.
Backyard Brains, a neuroscience educational website, shows how the squid can change colors using nerve impulses.
The group hooked up the squid's skin to an iPod and played the 1993 hit single by Cypress Hill "Insane In The Brain," reported Slate.
The result is a multicolored mesermizing video showing the squid skin rapidly changing colors in polka dot explosions.
The video came at the heels of a new study about squids' incredible skin by researchers at the Marine Biological Laborotary.
They say that the nerves of the skin control the animals' shimmering hues that rapidly change, working as a kind of camouflage.
"For 20 years we have been wondering how the dynamically changeable iridescence is controlled by the squid," says study co-author Roger Hanlon, reported Science Daily.
"It is not an exaggeration to call this "electric skin.""
It is believed that the base in the Cypress Hill song was enough to turn this electric skin on full blast.
